When it comes to precision optical instruments Carl Zeiss is generally accepted as offering unrivalled quality. Here at Robert Callander Optician we certainly believe that Zeiss is the brand of excellence and we choose to use Zeiss Lenses and Diagnostic Instruments as the tools of our trade whenever possible.

Crucially we use Zeiss equipment for Glaucoma Screening. Glaucoma is one of the most common causes of blindness, affecting 2% of over 40s in the UK. However, early detection leads to successful treatment so we insist on using the highest quality diagnostic tool to check your eyes for risk factors before they become a problem.

To help us examine in detail and keep a photographic record of the back of your eye (allowing us to monitor changes over time) we use the finest available Retinal Camera, the Zeiss VisuCam. Examination of your retina helps in the detection of Glaucoma, Diabetes, Hypertension and other conditions - a vital component of your general health screening.

Spectacle lenses are most accurate in their centres and opticians have always measured you wearing your newly selected frame to position the lens centres in front of your eyes (we winked at you one eye at a time or put felt pen marks on the display lenses). Advances in lens manufacturing mean that today’s spectacle lenses can deliver greater quality of vision and more visual comfort than ever before, if they are accurately fitted. However, some studies have shown as much as a 40% drop in performance from inaccurate alignment of lens to eye. Our Zeiss RVT allows us to measure your new spectacles five times more accurately than by hand and even allows for 3D measurement, critical to success with the latest Individual lens designs.
